Many of Yerevan residents must have seen an old woman near the Lovers’ Park. She is 81-year-old Emma Sahakyan. But the people could hardly think of her family tree.
According to her, she is a niece of Garegin Nzhdeh. She has been aware of it since childhood, but a few years ago she got her family tree from the National Archives and made sure.
An old folding bed and some pieces of warm clothes is all her belongings left from her once decent life.
The 81-year-old woman has spent seven winters in the streets.
Ms Sahakyan was an elementary school teacher and worked as assistant director of the Children’s World department store. In 1995, Ms Sahakyan sold her home and moved to her sister. After living with her sister for 14 years, she found out that her niece had canceled her registration. After three years of knocking around her relatives and friends, the old woman found herself in the street.
She turned to different government agencies, but with no results. But the old woman does not want at all to spend another winter outside.
