In 2019, Armenia has made progress in women’s social integration, rights and security, according to an annual survey by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS).
The 2018 survey ranked Armenia 100th, whereas this year it has moved up to the 82nd place.
A striking example is the number of women-MPs – from 10 up to 24 percent of the total number of MPs. Moreover, more women are involved in economy and finance.
However, we cannot think we have made progress as, according to a 2016 poll, 17% of Armenian males do not consider it admissible for married women to work – to say nothing of sex-selective abortions.
Let us hope Armenia will move another 18 points up next year.
