ISTANBUL-BASED ARMENIAN DEMONSTRATES OTTOMAN-ERA MATCH BOX

Istanbul-based Armenian Nurhan Çetinkaya, a Republican People’s Party member, has posted an interesting photo on his Twitter page.

It is a photo of a matchbox – an exceptionally rare one.

The matchbox dates back to the 19th century. It was produced in the Ottoman Empire and has two Armenian inscriptions in the middle – “Սալօնի համար ընտիր լուցկի” (Excellent matches for a salon) and “Լուցկի Ստանպօլ” (Matches Istanbul).
