On his Facebook page, Artur Soghomonyan, President of the Pyunik FC, left the following statement on elections of the president of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), scheduled for December 23.
“Dear managers and owners of football clubs, as well as Armenian football fans,
“Elections of the president and executive council of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) are going to take place soon. Yesterday, the Pyunik, Ararat and Shirak FCs issued a joint statement on the necessity to clear the FFA of ‘bogus’ organization and launch a recovery process.
“On my part, I would like to address those running for the FFA presidency and those going to vote on December 23 and request that they do it with a sense of greatest responsibility. We have a unique chance to hold really democratic, legitimate and transparent elections of the FFA president. It is my deep conviction that neither the future FFA president nor any of his relatives should be affiliated with any of the club of Armenia championship!
“With all my respect for the investors and owners of clubs, such a president cannot guarantee impartial work and regain the clubs’ confidence in the FFA and ensure the development of Armenian football.
“Regrettably, we have bitter experience of such management in our history, which has had disastrous consequences: the Armenia premier league has only six clubs, with some of them planning to quit.
“My earnest request to the meeting participants who are going to vote on December 23 that they make a balanced decision for us to progress, but not regress!
“Much has yet to be done for Armenian football to regain a worthy place. I hope on December 23 we will succeed in electing the FFA executive committee members and president who will be able to ensure professional management for the benefit of Armenian football!”
