This May news circulated in Armenia that, just before the velvet revolution, representatives of Armenia’s former authorities had destroyed some documents of the RA National Security Service. The authorities did not elaborate on the contents of the document, qualifying the act as a crime.
Late I October, Vice-Chief of the RA National Security Service Stepan Melkonyan stated that the documents had been restored as the had copies.
On Thursday, the Zhoghovurd newspaper reported that only some of the documents were restored. According to the information at the newspaper’s disposal, examined by national security agents, Major-General Tigran Barseghyan, the ex-head of the Anti-Terror and Law and Order Department, and the ex-agents, said Vice-Chief of the RA National Security Service Karapet Davtyan was the one who ordered the documents to be destroyed.
But, according to the newspaper, the documents were destroyed only because they were not needed any more. But the alarm raised this year made agents restore at least some of them.
